Intersesting comment from Brian.

Brian, I assume from this comment that you have taken it upon yourself to discuss this thread with the supplier in question and have made your decision based on that discussion. As the author of the post and the person who was supplied with the incorrect parts it is interesting that you have not actually contacted me to gather all of the facts and to hear the final outcome. After much more time wasting i actually found out the reason for the incorrect parts but only after visiting another local supplier with the various incorrect parts and comparing with their stock.

A decision was made not to post the outcome due to your request for not revealing the names of problem suppliers. I understand your reasons for this but do feel that if the suppliers feel that strongly they also have (or should have) the freedom of speech to allow them to reply and put their side of the story. As you said you do not take advertising so there is no real need for you to protect these companies. If they feel there is a problem with something that we the public (and the ones they rely on for a living) have to say, then they can contact us and discuss it or post a reply. This particular incident generated no communication from the supplier with myself and they did nothing to attempt to satisfy a customer who would otherwise have purchased several expensive items from them (namely a cylinder head, injection pump and possibly a live drive clutch kit).

Gavin,

I was contacted by the supplier who was not happy about your comments on a public message board. I re-read your comments and made a judgement. I gathered from your posts, that you did not exhaust all avenues of communication with the supplier before going public on the problem. The supplier became aware of your troubles through reading this board.

There was no discussion, other than an agreement that the board was not a forum for naming and shaming suppliers. We do not take sides in these matters, as fordsontractorpages, and have to be very careful not to get involved in possible legal issues from peoples views published on here.

Neither do we condone the supply of faulty parts or service.

That is why we ask that, if you have any problems with suppliers, to run it past the team and allow us to judge whether we can publish the comments and handle the repercussions. This you did not do but we did not censor your original post or the replies.

I asked politely if we would not name companies, but, if anyone had any issues, I would be prepared to act as mediator PRIVATELY, not as fordsontractorpages.

I am willing to take problems to the suppliers PRIVATELY but not in a way that involves other board governors without their consent.

I too suffer the frustration of parts failure and suppliers failures in both work and my hobby, but my answer is to go straight to the supplier and, if I cannot get satisfaction, to the managing director and chairman.

I then will not deal with that company again and I remove it from my prefered suppliers list. It really gets their attention when they loose orders of up to £10,000 per customer.

I realise we are not all in the same position, but sometimes pressure can be applied in other ways. The main thing is to get a discusion going with suppliers and take them evidence of faulty service/parts en masse.

Brian's action is both wise and reasonable. I know of a car club forum that was shut down because of potential damages from legal action by a parts supplier. We don't want that :(

Also very noble of you to offer to be a mediator should a problem arise.

It's very easy for a company to check its 'press' by searching on here, something we all need to be aware of.

Better to give credit where that is due.

I want to add my thoughts from this side of the big water. If someone can not abide by the rules of the forum then they are band/kicked off of the other forums I go on. I believe everyone should have the right to submit their opinions but if the administrators say do not name suppliers then it does not take a lot of smarts to understand this rule. I would hate to see this site closed because of someone who will not follow the rules.
Thanks
