Re: I Need Some Nuffield Info
The picture is a bit small but I think it's a BMC mini tractor.

Re: I Need Some Nuffield Info
Thanks, Jerry. Sorry about the picture. It was a scan of a newspaper ad.
It looks like its about the same size as a Dexta, or is it smaller? Were they a fairly dependable tractor? Is there a good Nuffield tractor forum?
I may take a ride up there (its about 200 mi. away) and make an offer on it. I’m not sure yet, though. I may buy an industrial 4000 to put my backhoe on, so that I can take it off of that poor old Major. I can get one or the other, but not both.

Looks a bit like the little Leyland 154 tractor that used the B series petrol engine, and they were painted blue too (wrong shade) Smaller than a Dexta or a Ford n. Only about 25 hp.

Re: I Need Some Nuffield Info
I guess that Leyland eventually ended up owning Nuffield, so, could the BMC Mini and the little Leyland be the same tractor?

Re: I Need Some Nuffield Info
I have a friend that has two of those 154 Leylands. The hoe off of your Major will keep the frontend off of the ground and break the rear axle with it's shear weight alone. The carburetors are very finickey. I had to put a lighter spring under the fuel pump diaphram to keep it from flooding over as the replacement pump had too high a pressure and would push the needle and float down. If I remember right, the carburetor and fuel pump are similer to an Austin automobile
I wholehartedly agree with Kiwi Kev. Stick with Fordson/ Ford blue. Dandy Dave!

Re: I Need Some Nuffield Info
Hi Dave,
This one is a diesel, so I wouldn't have to worry about carb problems. I was thinking about using it for mowing. I wasn't even considering putting that hoe on it. The hoe alone probably weighs as much as two of those little tractors I was just saying that I can only buy one tractor now. I have to decide whether to get a little tractor to mow with, or a bigger one to put the hoe on.

The Nuffield forum:

Looks Like a Nuffy Mini, they were rebadged to Leyland 154 after the merger. They are smaller than a dexta and were between 900cc and 1500cc. The engine was based on the Austin Mini engine hence the pet name 'mini'

So my memory serves me right. The engines are Austin. Is the diesel version also Austin? Or something else? Dandy Dave!

It might have a 1500 diesel motor, same as Austin JU vans of that era,yes it is smaller than a Dexta,it will be rarer by maybe,200 Dexta's to 1 Nuffield.

Re: I Need Some Nuffield Info
These Mini Nuffy's, and Lelands are odd over here in the states also. The ones that my friend has are the only two I have ever seen around here, and I've been wrenching on stuff for 40 years. There are several larger Leland farm tractors in the area. But not the Minis. I would say they fall in the line of a Compact tractor. Dave!
