The kid wants me to ask if any of you have had issues with an IH 574 gas engine scoring pistons. They had one tractor that had this issue three times and now another tractor with the same issue. I’m not sure how old they are but the first thing that came to my mind is issues with the newer pump gas.

I've worked on several IH's that are similar in size and HP but have not noticed any problem. These tractors do not get a lot of use back here. Ask the gang on the YT site. Dandy Dave!

I know nothing about IH tractors but scoring pistons in other engines is usually an indication of partial seizure due to overheating/lack of coolant circulation or oil problems.

Think the new petrol problems seem to occur in the valves, my TE20 used to stick the valves and dotty did this too until I started to add ATF to the fuel.

Hi Pat
The problem could be it's Red :run:  On a more serious note is it one piston or all :?: I had a Nuffield once that i bought from a guy to fix up, it kept dumping number 4 liner in the oil pan. nobody could figure out why the top kept breaking off about every 6 weeks of use  . I found out why :) the impeller from the water pump had fallen off  . it was not circulating to the back and it was causing heat fracture. just wondering if it could be an issue like that or the impellers worn
as guys have said cooling problems in the other posts. I have heard others say worn impeller in posts before too but don't know how true that is :).
It Would be good to know what it was when they do find out if you could update us please :)
