I Have a boat, not a tractor, I hope I am still welcome to your forum! In my boat I have a ford motor which I am trying to gather as much information about as I have a problem with water getting into the oil and am about to embark on some major surgery. It is 4 cylinder, (which are 100mm diameter and about the same to the top of the piston when down) was picked up in New Zealand. The only numbers I can find on the block so far are H22V and 1300844. Does that mean anything to anyone then at least I'll know which part of the forum to get into. The manual I have with it, though I don't know if its the right one is for the 2700 Range from which I can deduce mine may be the 2701E.

Your engine was built between June and September 1954 so it is definitely not a 2701E which is an engine from the late 1960's and 1970's. It probably came from a tractor, a Fordson Major Diesel. !954 means it is an early engine with probably a cast steel crank which needs handling with care if you have it out of the engine.

Your problem is most likely pinholes in the bottom of the cylinder liners which would need replacing, or erosion of the seal ring grooves in the block, not a big problem as they can be repaired with plastic metal.

If you need liners you will need the early type without the sealing ring at the top.
