Oscar, Brian,

Need to do some more checking.
It seems to be randomly dropping the wifi link.
We 'battle on'.
Oscar, try seeing if you can 'post' something.

Ben,

Regarding roll bar...
Don't know. It came with her and I can not see a manufacturers plate.
Needs some attention, when I get around to it. Folding joints need the pins freeing off.

I can't see it also, even when I try to follow the link.
The topic is loading real slow so I think it's searching on the net, but can't find it.

Mike,
The link that Henk mentioned does not show up on my computor.

Mike,

I don't see the link either. The post takes quite some time to load.
Eventually I see (in stead of a picture) a white square with a red cross in it.

Oh Dear!

As I've said, seems that the server is randomly dropping the wifi link.
Trouble is, I don't know why yet.
Will keep 'plugging away'.

Let's try this...

Mike, when I first opened this topic, the pic in the first post loaded very quickly...the pic in the last post did not load...I had a msg in my browser (firefox v3) that ftp transaction was finished....when I hit the 'reload' button, both pictures appeared.

For the other folks that are curious....DYNDNS.ORG is a service that allows you to have a name .... "www.something.dyndns" ... name associated with your IP address......I believe Mike is attempting to link directly to photos stored on a home or office computer instead of using photobucket or the like ....

( I used to be a bit of a computer nerd myself ..been out of practice a few years though)

Cheers

Chaps,

Mike is working on our own dedicated photo page so that we don't have to use Photo-bucket et al.

That is why there are occasional cryptic messages appearing every now and again.

Am I right in thinking that once this facility is established the photos downloaded to this site will be in a central location, whereas at the moment they are accessed by means of links to Yahoo, Photobucket etc?

Yes you are right Gerald, it will be located in my front room

But as we are self funding we cannot afford the high tec gear so we are putting things together between the three of us. Once Mike has done all the hard work. :D

This site means a lot to me, I visit it at least once a day. So if necessary I am prepared to make a monetary donation towards improving it and securing its future if necessary.

Gerald.

Thanks for that Gerald but Oscar and I feel that if we accept any monetary donations it puts an increased load on us to ensure that all the information given is correct and there can be no comebacks on the site.

At the moment, we want to keep everything free and informal although we are investigating ways to fund any expansion. None of us want to go down the advertising pop up route though.

Once again many thanks for your offer, it is really appreciated.

Nice offer Gerald,
A lot of us feel the same way but, it carries associated 'dangers'.

So, everything is being done on the 'cheap'.
Even the intended 'server' was considered 'spare' and I negotiated its' 'donation'.

Ruddy cheek :)
When this server goes 'live' you will find it is 3.2GHz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 80 Gb Hard Drive ...

Had this running once but found, within 36 hours it had been 'hacked' so, started again. Image

Currently tring to find out if the present problem is...
(a) suspect 'link' since I installed a wifi network card, instead of hardwired.
(b) possibly port forwarding and firewall needs modifying now that it's wifi networked.
(c) service provider could be applying 'fair usage' restrictions, even though I'm supposed to be 'unlimited usage'.

It's probably (a) and (b) combined but it takes a time to sort out (long hours and much 'away from home' to earn a crust)

Then, of couse, once it's all sorted, I have to get it to Brian and set it up all over again :(

Trouble is, you see, it works perfectly within my home network. The problems are external reception so it's, "go out, test, come back, adjust, try again :?

Pity Meanderer is so far away, I have reason to believe he 'knows his stuff'.

The other 'problem' is that, for this sort of thing to work, you usually need a 'static' IP address from your service provider (they constantly change your IP, mine at least once a day, that's how they keep control and earn extra Image) and a 'formal' web site. (More expense etc.)
To overcome this, I've registered a 'free' website through dyndns.org (fordsonlad) and installed a piece of software that constantly looks at the IP address the service provider gives then, when they change it, automatically makes the corresponding changes to both dyndns and the ftp server.

Of course, these are more things I can (do) screw up as I make changes :D

Be patient chaps, it's on it's way... Image

P.S. Jack (Commander). Also playing with the fact that there are slightly different results if I view with IE, Firefox or Ophra. Obviously, I need to 'stabalize' for all browsers.

Web site security

Oscar/Brian/Mike,
How secure is the information held on this website? It would be a tragedy if information was lost or even unavailable for a period of time.
I've experienced such an outage with a car forum and the loss has serious implications for members who depend on such information to maintain their cars/ tractors, etc.

I'm sure you have back-up etc well covered, but it would be comforting to be reassured about this after all the hard work put into this excellent site by so many people.
All the best,
Ben
