When will we see you ploughing with your Major?

Very interesting pictures Henk. What stood out for me was the number of single reversible ploughs.

Times and dates are fluid.

We wll be in Amsterdam on Sunday but our friends want to see the van Gogh exibition. We are booked in at that from 1pm to 2pm. So we shall look around the city afterwards and take a boat trip.

The rest of the week is free and although we want to visit places like Giethorn, we have not set any days or times.

Here is my PM plough taken some time ago.

The PM is smaller and weaker than the TS59 and was built for the E27N Fordson Major. It was still in use when Henriietta was new. The TS59 came out around 1955. They both used the same bodies though.

Most of these ploughs used either YL (Yorkshire Light) bodies that worked a 10" or 12" furrow down to about 4" to 6" deep, or an EPIC body like the ones on my PM which plow a 10" or 12" wide furrow down to about 8" deep.

These bodies are ideal for what you want to do with it.

The YL bodies have an extra "twist" in them and lay a good sealed furrow, the EPIC has a straighter profile and leaves a more broken furrow which is what I like.

In both cases the skimmers that turn the top 1/2" of the work into the bottom of the furrow are mounted on the disc that cuts the furrow side wall.

The plough you were looking at had "SCN" bodies. These are deep digger bodies and work best at depths of 10" to 12" and with 12" to 14" furrows. They would be a heavy load on your tractor in your conditions. It also had "SN" skimmers which are very good but add the load of another furrow. These are the bodies and skimmers that I use on my TS82 reversible behind Nuffy,

My friend told me the plough was to wide. So the best combination will be the TS 59 with YL body’s. These body’s were also recommended by my friend.

I thought so. The brand is Bollinder Munktell. It’s Swedish. Later they were purchased by Volvo and became BM Volvo, now part of Valtra / Agco. This year it will be the theme at our museum. I have written a page about the history on our site and will ad it when the museum opens again. This is in Dutch of course. We have a few members that love that brand.

Most of the ploughers are first class. The young guy on the Hanomag is a beginner but is learning fast. The young guy on the Dexta with the Sirocco coat is the most promising plougher of Holland in 2009. The boy on the Schluter is ploughing for the second time. His grandfather is teaching him how to. He’s learning very fast. The man waving on the Hanomag is the oldest member and is one of the best for many years. He would be a great teacher for me.

This coming Sunday, three days time and counting down!!!

So coming Monday could be possible at the Keukenhof?
