How far would you go?

I have been watching our NZ auction site, Trademe, with frustration. There are a number of attractive and cheap Dexta parts and whole tractors, all of which are a 3hr ferry crossing and many 100's of km away, in Northland. Just makes the whole deal too costly. Funny how things just don't seem to crop up where you live! I know members have brought in tractors from overseas and it led me to wondering just how far some of you have gone to acquire the item you really wanted. To kick things off, my Dexta was only 31/2 hours away from where I lived at the time and only cost me a couple of hundred $NZ to truck it to me.
Regards, Derek.

There is a story on the Wiki about Barrys Dexta. The round trip was over 1000 miles.

I went 1060 miles (round trip) for one Major, 996 miles for another one, and 968 for another. The rest of them have been considerably closer.

Hi Derek, I guess you are talking about the Fordson Super Dexta up in Kerikeri for $800 on Trademe. As you know, it would cost more than its worth to get it to the South Island. The cheapest way to get a tractor from up here to your place, would if possible, would be to drive it! There were two David Browns in the mid 80's that went from Huntly to Ashburton that were driven, took 5 days from start to finish.(The owner had considered going by rail or trucking then down.)I think they averaged 200-250km per day,and the trip was quicker than they had planned. My frustration with Trademe is tractors that are listed that disappear, they had a Ford 4000 County for sale for $1800 ono at Coromandel, till the 5 June 09 thats gone and I cant find it.There are probably more Dexta's down South than you think, it just a matter of finding them!
Cheers TSG. :D

I found my Roadless just 3km:s away. We towed it home with another tractor. I would have gone some km:s more for it though.

The super was just 3 miles away I just can't see the farm from the dyk on the river Waal but it is a houre drive with the tractor the neares bridge is ca 7 miles away.

The Roadless was in Katwijk aan Zee driving on the beach for abouth 30 years (only 10 houres a year) and with a lot off paint on it it as about 110 km from my home, but for a roadless or county I would drive all europe for a nice or cheap one

I drove my New Major about 75 km. Took me 4,5 hour with one bad brake and the other would block when I pressed the pedal a bit strong. The caprice on the steering system was hues. So every corner was an adventure, and I could not drive strait. Had a stainless pipe as exhaust and was deaf when I come home. But it was a lot of fun.

The furthest I drove was 3200 km round trip to Stevo's place to pick up some parts for my E27N. It was a bit of a holiday though, there were a few places along the way that I always wanted to visit. I spent quite a bit of time in the Parkes Vintage Machinery Museum, which has the biggest tractor that I have ever seen in it.

The next big trip is to pick up an E27N County crawler. That will be about 2800 km round trip and I would drive around the world for the parts to put 4 wheel drive onto my E27N P6.

Regards, Frank.

Yeah TSG, that is one of the items, also www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=221664304 and http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farmi ... 548809.htm (although that last is pricey.) I did consider driving my Dexta to Blenheim from Takaka when we moved but I needed the extra day for the other chaos! :D

Gee you other guys have sure clocked up some miles!
