Plate says 4/BD and serial 10010. I guess it is a County Full Track Mark IV with Bray Dozer, and number 10 in production. Anyone got some inputs?
Been standing outside for 20+ years. Engine have been changed for a FL-type, and it is turning. Main gear lever is jammed. At least one of the hydraulic pipes for the blade is rusted through. One of the steering clutches had problems, that was why it was put to rest. I need info on these. I think it is the multiplate type.

I'll check this weekend when I've got some time. There were 2 types of steering clutch, the 8 stud axles were the later type (its a while since I looked at one in detail so memory a but rusty). We've got a 1960 county based on a power major. Have you got roller bushes on the track chain? Ours should have but must have had the chain swapped at some time. The bottom rollers wear on the shoulders, they have replaceable pressed on metal "tyres" presumably because they wear out. Once worn they allow the track to jump off when turning. Sprockets can be swapped from side to side to wear both sides of the teeth. If the tops of the teeth are sharp/pointed they are worn. If you have a correct drawbar (heavy duty) the you need a raised PTO (or no PTO!).

I took these before driving it back to my friend.
Handle by the seat controls the three-way tipper body. Switch in front of the handle routes the hydraulics to the trailer tipping cylinder.
The big square handle seen through the right side of the steering wheel is the splitter gearbox. This one has a turbo intercooled engine, 4 gears in each range (low/high) and a splitter on each gear. 16 gears total - syncronised of course. Very nice gearbox. (I know you know this stuff, Emiel - but maybe interesting to Pat )

Thanks for the pictures. Interior looks good for such an old one.
Never seen the splitter on the dash though. The one we had had the SR52 8 speed box with the high low on the red button on the gear shift lever. Can't remember I've ever seen a 16 speed one. The FL's had an extra switch on the gear lever.
Had to remove the front hydraulic pump. The control valve for the blade was stuck in the "raised" posistion, and the piping was rusted through at least one place. The control valve is sitting inside the tank, never seen that before. Engine is the later FL type with mechanical governour, so it has been replaced at a time. Its based on a New Major, so it should have the old engine and vacuum governour if it were to be combut pletely original. I dont mind the newer engine. I had to work a little with the stuck pump rack, but eventually it loosened up. Engine doesnt smoke at all, and sounds real good. Brakes are stuck so what will be my next job....

Main gear lever was jammed. It was the sliding axle beneth that was rusted. Got it free with some heat and penetrating oil... worked it for an hour or two and now I can shift it with the lever. Got the brakes loose, and I moved it 1 meter forward under its own power... very happy next thing will be to sort out the right steering clutch. I could use some data or text on this one. Its the multidisc type.

I think one of the tractor magazines had an article on repairing these clutches, maybe Tractor and Machinery, I'll do some digging this weekend, we start the pumpkin chucking this weekend but I should be able to find some time.
Here is the failed steering clutch drum. I thought my MarkIV crawler had the multidisc, but I was wrong. This cracked drum is the reason the bulldozer was parked 20 years ago. Guess the previous owner couldnt source a spare one. Robb Morgan hooked me up with a replacement.

Took it over to a neighbur for a beer last night. Smiling all the way Rigged the rams for the blade up to the hydraulics on the County 654 to check them for leaks, and they are ok. They are a little pitted, but not enough to worry about. They are a special type with quite large attachment bolts. A ram of the shelf wont work. I'll fit them and maybe change or get the rods coated later. Will not fit the blade until its restored.
