Hello,
First I will introduce myself. I am Arno Gubbels, living in Noorbeek (netherlands), 22 years old. And I am restoring a fordson power major and converting it to a 6 cilinder with a ford 2709E engine.
Now i have bought new clutch plates and some clutch bearings, I want to replace this ones. It is a double plated clutch. But I can't find an english or dutch repair manual. Does anybody know were I can get one? Or does somebody has one digital?
I wil post some pictures of my restoration soon.
Kind regards,
Arno Gubbels

Hello Arno! Go to Fordson Tractor Pages; The New Major; Repair manual & Parts list. You have struck the mother lode of Fordson information!

Welcome to this board. I hope the double clutch can stand the power of that engine.

A single 13" had been a better choice.

I have found the information for the clutch, thanks everybody.
I know a fordson power major with the same engine as what I am going to use. He used the original double plated clutch en he has no problems with it. He used the tractor for ploughing and it still works. Thats why i Chose the double clutch.
Here are some pictures from the tractor when I bought it:
At the sellers house:
On the trailer from a friend:
Here is the engine which I am going to use:
One of these days i will post some pictures of the work that is already been done.

I would never put a six cylinder engine on a dual clutch IMHO.
The 55hp Super Major engine was too powerful for the clutch design.
I have seen those clutches explode and it is not a pretty sight. Just a heap of scrap in the clutch housing.

Hi Arno. Curiosity has got the better of me. The rear tyres are on the wrong way around, the drawbar assembly is missing but there is a hitching point on the front, was it used to pull something in reverse? It looks to be in a lovelly working condition, congratulations on your purchase

i guess this has been asked before but cannot find answer,
can a 13" clutch assembly be fitted to the flywheel from a dual clutch new performance gearbox.
mine will not disengage pto and gets high on pedal after heavy work.
I guess my 6 cylinder is to much for it.

No, it has a different flywheel.

Everything from the clutch, including the gearbox is different. You would need a new flywheel, clutch and inner gearbox.
I built a six cylinder into a standard New Performance Super and used the standard clutch. This unit worked for many years on a large Howard Rotospreader spreading many tons of muck. She twisted the main shaft off on the Rotospreader but never had to have a clutch fitted. A 13" is good but I would not be afraid to use a standard clutch unit. There was also an intermediate, thicker 11" disc that used spacers. We fitted many of these for heavy work.

Thanks everybody for the reactions.
The seat is not original, it doesn't fit properly. I traded it for an original fordson seat.
Thanks for the info about the clutches, but I just bought new clutch plates, so I will give it a try. If it's ready it will mostly be used for shows and hobby. Not really hard work.

The seller said that he installed the tyres this way around so the tractor drove smoother, the tyres were worn. The tractor came with a drawbar assembly, but it wasn't installed.

Does anybody knows if the front weights on the next picture fit on the front block of a power major. I heart they didn't but I don't know fur sure.

Arno

Hi Arno,
This tractor belongs to a tractorfriend of mine.
It's a great tractor.
The front weights from 1000-series will not fit, since the wholes in the front block are not in the same place as in the front weights.
A subframe is used to mount these front weights.
I used the same method for my tractor.

Do you have any pics of this subframe? Maybe I want to mount this kind of weights on the front.
It's a nice tractor

. What kind of engine is mounted in this one, a ford 590E?

Hi Arno, If your tractor is not going to be a "working tractor" and only used for show, why put front weights on it? Would it be better to use the money for purchasing front weights and making the subframe to be spent on Gulpener instead?

Cheers TSG.

Hi Arno,
I'll try to make some pictures of the frame next weekend.
The 4WD had a 590e as an engine. The owner drives quite some kilometers with this tractor during the summer, when travellng to different festivals like Panningen, Tilligte and Nordhorn.
Due to the NP-backend and the low revs of the engine, he runs only 23km/h.
Hi TSG,
Gulpener is great beer indeed.
I have somefront weights on my tractor too, although it's a hobby tractor. When using a backloader, a wheelie is not rare.
Front weights will make the difference.

Last summer I did a rebuild of the engine, here some pics:
I placed several new bearings, new piston rings, all the seals, new injectors.
the new injectors:
Painted the dieselpump:
Painted the exhaust manifold with temp. resistance paint:
Made a adapter piece for the new radiator fan:
The new engine in primer:
The rest of the tractor is also completely dissassembled. More pics and updates of this will follow
A few days ago I noticed a broken bearing in the transmission, this will be the next thing to rebuild. Has anyone some handy tips and trics for rebuilding the transmission?
