Ford County 1164

Post by billgatt »

Just bought a Ford County 1164 with Jones twin drum winch and timber front blade. She is in running order but will need restoring, usual County wear but not as bad as some. Im not a timber guy so would want to make it Agric spec which means I need the 3 point linkage. I understand these were based on the rear end of a Ford 5000 so Im on the hunt for any lift parts to convert including the lift top. I could sell the winch to off set cost of the parts. Please let me know whats out there.

Nice find! Please put up some pictures. I think that your "Jones" winch actually is a Norwegian made Igland unit. I may have some linkage parts for you, located in Norway though ;)

what linkage you need depends on the age of your 1164 as there were 4 different build specs over the years.

prefix year engine model back end
8F 1971-1975 8000 5000
28F 1975-1979 8600 or 8700 7600
41F 1979-1982 TW10 7600
55F 1982 on TW10 7610

Hope this is helpful.
The best bet is to look for local tractor breakers or exporters

Yes local breakers would be best but unfortunately none of them have anything meantime so Im just widening my search. There is a local guy with a 654 County, very poor condition with a front blade and a Hiab that has a lift cover and the cow horn arms still on it. I think it expensive at £3000 as the front left hub is burst, the engine barely runs and all the tin work is terrible. Maybe I should buy it anyway and take off the lift top with cross shaft and cowhorns then sell off the rest. Do you think the remainder would get me much money, the engine is the later 5000 cross block and of course there would be the other hub, drive shafts and gearbox which could be sold. What about front blade and HiAb?
