County 1164 Resto

I've got a '76 1164 that I'm restoring. I bought it from the original owner. She has about 1700 hours on the proofmeter, and the original U.K. tires. Before pulling off the front tires during teardown, I noticed that one front tire was worn considerably on one side. And, after looking at her for hours sitting in my garage, it appears that front tire leans out at the top. All other tires seem to be straight up, perpendicular to the concrete. All other tires, including the other front, are worn evenly. At first, I thought possibly a bearing was bad on either the top or bottom of that front gearbox. But after removing tire/wheel, there doesn't seem to be any excessive play in either bearing. My question is, are there any adjustments to the camber on these front axles? Greg.

Welcome to the board.

How about the bearings on the axle from the hub ?

I haven't checked that yet. I guess I just figured that if the axle bearing was wore out, the tire/wheel would be tipping in at the top instead of out? I will inspect it. I have to drop the front axle anyway. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the advice. Greg.

Brian, I just checked axle bearing, seams to be tight, and axle seal is not leaking. I measured difference between both sides, and it is 3.5 degrees out at the top when the other side is at 90 degrees perpendicular to the floor. I measured with a magnetic protractor on the hub face. Any other ideas? Greg.

Hi,

You could jack up the tractor, put some markings on the front wheels, turn on the back wheels and count the number of turnings in the left and right front wheel. The should be exactly the same.

A friend of mine had the same issue with a Super4 (SuperMajor). In his County one fronthub was replaced and had the incorrect differential/teeth in it.
Hope this helps.

Never thought of that. I've already dropped the front axle, so I guess I could pull apart both hubs and verify they are identical or not. Thanks for the advice. Greg
