Replaceing Handbrake Lever

Whats the best way to put a new handbrake lever on the shaft moves in and out so i cant get it on the whole way

Cheat just like I did when pulling the hi/lo selector lever, drill and tap a hole in the end of the shaft and then thread in a screw there that you can pull on...

but the shaft is not that wide wonder would it work

The Hand brake shaft is a lot bigger than the hi lo shaft he is talking about.
A Fordson is for life not just for Christmas !.

ok got the handbrake lever off with a set of pullers whats the best way to get it back on should the shaft pull in and out a bit?
