seals and bearings

Post by henk »

I have the idea of making a list of measurements from seals and bearings from the whole range of Fordsons tractors.

What do you think of the idea?

I would need inner and outer diameter and thickness in mm or inches. Type or material of seal (single or double lipped) or bearing, Model and year of the tractor and Fordson part number and place of the seal or bearing. Also supplier could be important.

Planning to make it a database and put the result on the site.
Kind regards, Henk

I can begin with the seals I've "stumbled" upon so far...

Pedal cross-shaft seal (Rear axle housing behind the pedals)

O.D: 44.45mm = 1 3/4"
I.D: 28.57mm = 1 1/8"
Thickness: 11.11mm = 7/16"

Momentum number
ID OD T Mtr Typ Best-Nr
28.57 44.45 7.93 NBR BA 5005-4353

------------------------------------------
Super Major Brake shaft seal (Behind Discs)(With the thinner seal, you can fit two on each side)
O.D: 88.90mm = 3 1/2"
I.D: 63.50mm = 2 1/2"
Thickness: 19.05mm = 3/4"

Momentum number
ID OD T Mtr Typ Best-Nr
63.5 88.9 9.52 NBR BA 5011-7366
63.5 88.9 12.7 NBR BASL 5011-7424

------------------------------------------------
Major/Power Major Brake shaft seal (Behind Drums)
O.D: 85.73mm = 3 3/8"
I.D: 57.15mm = 2 1/4"
Thickness: 12.70mm = 1/2"

Momentum number
ID OD T Mtr Typ Best-Nr
57.15 85.72 12.7 NBR BA 5011-1427

----------------------------------------
PTO Selector Lever Seal (Below gearbox)
O.D: 46.04mm = 1 13/16"
I.D: 38.10mm = 1 1/2"
Thickness: 6.35mm = 1/4"

The order numbers quoted and the material list is for swedish company "Tools Momentum", they supply seals and bearings amongst other things...

Thank you Foxen for your input.

I've made a start. Se for the result:
http://people.zeelandnet.nl/hmdetroije/ ... arings.pdf

I will use pdf and put it on my site, so I can update it any time. I have sorted them on the fordson part number for a start.
Please give your comment for improvements.
I could also put O-rings in it.
If you have any data you want to share about seals and bearings. please sent them to me. The fordson part number makes it easy to find it in the book. I have no other books than from the major so it will be hard for me to check the other models.

Any ideas about a place to put the link on the fordsontractorpages?

Foxen, could you check your data please.
Kind regards, Henk

This is a great help to me finding out where these might fit. I think they are Fordson seals but i don´t know to what model and place. E27N is on some of them.

Neat little list, but does the major and power major really have two seals on the brake shaft? the measurements I have should be for the one that's nearest to the drums in that case(outer?) Looks good anyway :)

Edit:
Spotted a small mistake on the "type of seal" column, you've typed B1 on one seal?

Foxen,

It has two seals. As you say the outer one is behind the drum and the inner one is at the rear end side.
I have mixed them up but it's correct now.
The bearing is correct.

I suppose you mean Grani? ;)

I've swapped my seal for the Raised PTO but I didn't measure it when I changed, it's a reinforced seal though, made to withstand very much abuse...

Henk,

I have found the sizes of bearings and seals of the belt pulley you've asked me a while ago.

1x SKF bearing 6210 (50x90x20mm) no seals
1x SKF bearing 6406 (30x90x23mm) no seals
1x seal 65X90X13 R (innerdiameter needs to be a little bit smaller, but you can adjust the little spring inside, 64x90x13 is not a regular size).
1x O-ring 100x6 (I believe the diameter was Ø102 but I used Ø100) Maybe you can use a smaller diameter like Ø100x5, as Ø100x6 did not fit perfectly.

Hopefully this information is enough for you.

Never thought I'd find this thread again, does anyone know which measurements the seal that goes in the engine block around the shaft which drives the fuel pump has? Mine's developed a quite heavy leak :/

If anyone is interested I've sourced the seal henk gave me the dimensions for from "Momentum", the order number is 5003-8505

I can confirm that it's 10mm thick and has a dust lip, it being 10 or 12mm is of no concern as materials and such has improved quite a lot in the 48 years that have passed since my(ex mine) super major has been manufactured ; )

To find the list on an easy way, I have made a wiki with a link to the list.
This was also to see how to make a wiki.
