Major Seat Pan Wanted

Post by bluecraig0776 »

I accidentally threw out my seat pan for my '57 Major when I was clearing a load of scrap.

Anybody have one for sale?

Your suppose to sit on them, not through them. :scratchhead:

I'm looking for a long time to find an original one or a Rest-O-Ride model but had no luck.
Kind regards, Henk

Hello all. I have one but I imagine the shipping would not be cheap. The model Rest-O-Ride, is this like the one I have that has a rubber boot attached to the back of the seat? I have been thinking of putting it on my Power Major but it is still sitting in my shop. Good luck on finding the seat.

Gman,

The R-O-R has two round rubbers witch can be adjust. It was used only on the super models. I think.

The original pan seat has one more or less egg shape rubber on the back and that is bouncing on the 3 point hitch cover. It was used on the New and Power models.

Henk,

Regarding the Rest-o-ride seat. Rest-o-ride was also used on some of the 5000 series Fords in Australia. Some of the Parts still carry the CONN Prefix, which would mean the Rest-o-ride was also used in the USA on some 1000 series.

Was the R-O-R seat a Ford product or did they buy it in? Where there more brands that could be delivered with this seat.
If I remember well, Mark told us he use to have one on his JD.
Kind regards, Henk

rest-0-ride seat

Post by brownsmule »

the R-O-R seat was available in the USA on 600 and 800 series tractors going back to 1955. I have seen the seat on Golden Jubilee's and NAA's but I don't know if it was installed after the fact. My 640 Ford has the restoride seat and need's new rubber's. Last I checked they cost as much as a replacement seat. decisions, decisions, decisions. my tractor, my money.
Best Regards

Seat was made by a different company but I cant remember the name now, some david brown tractors use a very similar set-up. I have a rather second hand looking seat which needs a total rebuild. I missed buying a new old stock one at the cambridge sales a few years back for £100 and have regretted it ever since! nowadays they fetch big $$$$ thats if you can find one!

That R-o-R seat are they unusual or? Was it a option on several modles? We have one off those on our Dexta and I believe there are one fitted to our Major as well. I can probably arrange several more if someone is intrested, I know where to find more off them.

I've also seen the ROR seat fitted on Olivers from the 50's and 60's over here.

Digging though the web, Case, and IH aso used this seat on different models. Although the base plate is most likely different.
