Oil level in rear axle above maximum

Hi guys,

Last weekend I use my lift after quite some time. I had my 4 cylinder SuperMajor engine in the lift.



It lifted fine, but when the lift lifted the engine and kept it high, it made quite some noise. It's hard to describe,
but it sounded like a high tone.
The rear axle leaked some oil at the raised pto (i think), which I hadn't discovered before with the lift/PTO not engaged.

Back home I noticed, the oil level was above maximum. Could this be the cause of the sound and of the leaking?
What's the danger of having the oil level above maximum?

After the gearbox rebuild, I filled her up to max. After looking at the oil levekl in the rear axle, I noticed the oil level in the
gearbox was dropped a bit...I hope the gearbox oil is not droppng into the rear axle...

You do seem to happen apon a run of bad luck Pascal, and I for one, feel for you. That dang just seem to follow you around. I hope you can get these things sorted someday, and actually beable to enjoy your Fordsons. Dandy Dave!

Gearbox oil can drain through the PTO gearbox and into the rear transmission. Gearbox oil level will drop, and rear trans oil level will rise. There are a couple of seals in the PTO gearbox.
The one good thing about this is that both compartments use the same type of oil( do not have to replace all the oil)
I see you have some hydraulic hose connectors on the back of your tractor. You could connect a hose to here, and just pump some oil back into the gearbox on a regular basis( depends how fast the leak is) or you could drop the PTO gearbox and replace the seals.(will need to drain both gearbox and rear transmisssion oils first)
Can't help you with the noise though sorry.

I have replaced the seals in the PTO gearbox..I guess I didn't quite did the job correct...

A very good plan to pump the oil from the rear axle into the gearbox! Thank you, Kev!!
May be that solves the sound too? I'll keep you updated.
It might take some time, because my wife and I are expecting our first daughter in 1 till 3 weeks: exciting!

Although the bad luck, I do enjoy my Fordson. A few weekends ago I pulled quite some trucks, vans, campers and cars from the
mud on a festival. That was fun..al least for me!
