County id numbers

Post by 5000blues »

I need a bit of help identifying a county tractor, which I think is based on a pre-force (6x) 5000. It has a 6 cylinder engine,
engine no D 626 {then a triangle/D/ or possibly a 4} then 24

topline of the gearbox number is E 246
with underneath that B 48254742

It is pretty rough, no bonnett, no mudguards, no county badges, no lift cover/arms/drawbar. It has a pto and hydraulic pump. I haven't seen it running, yet. It was used to carry a drilling rig. The engine was re-conditioned in 1974! My guess is it is a 954, as it has a heavy skirting on the engine sump.

Can anyone tell me what year and model it is please?

Hi folks, I did a bit more research and the main difference between a county 954 and 1004 is 5 more hp from the same engine(2703E Ford D series engine)Image and a different back axle. Does anybody know the difference between a 954 and 1004 back axle? Also how do I upload a photo on here?

Thanks.

Hi I dont think there is a difference between the rear axle on the pre force 954,1004 or the 1124, but both the 1004 and the 1124 have a diagonal strengthening brace that runs along the side of the engine (see pic) it is fitted to the side rails just in front of the oil filter the 954 does not have this.

Hi Rscapriman,

Your County looks superb! Wow!
Really beautiful.

Is it a great tracor for a tractor run? Or do you prefer driving in the field with it?
Where do you use it for?
Best regards,
Pascal

Hi Pascal, use it for Steam Rallies really enjoy it on the road only problem around here most road runs specify no large 4wd tractors hence my 1961 Super Major.

Hi Thats a nice tractor when the budget allows I want to do my 954 like that :) .
I wonder if they mean big 4wd as in ford FW 60 type tractors The county is not that big compared to say a 955 international or something like that I see on runs in the Classic Tractor or T&M  . I have a small favour i would like to ask if possible :) The wing seat is missing from mine and I was wondering if you could please measure yours for me and give the overall measurements and what the fender fitting is like so i can make one up. There are no tractors here in Canada I can copy from or any in wreckers to buy  I am in no urgent rush if you could help that would be grate. Thanks for your time :) .
Regards Robert
