Plough for Major

Post by 4040t »

Hello,
I have just bought a plough for our Super Major. I believe it is a Ransomes
Could anyone tell me which model it is? as the identification plate is part missing/damaged

The points have YL62 cast into them. There are various casting numbers on different parts which seem mostly to start with "EP", though i'm not sure if they are relevant to the model number
I would like to know in case I need to get any parts in the future, the skim parts are missing for a start

Many thanks

You have bought a Fordson Ransomes EP plough. I have just finished mine rebuilding. This one is in good shape and looks original. Mine was in a bad shape. I think it's a late model because the bar for the depth wheel is a bended one like the Ransomes, or it’s a replacement. Mine has a casted one. They were made at the Ford foundry, but later on Ford stop building them and Ransomes took over. The serie was then called FR implements. It’s replaced by the Ransomes model T56.

The last part is not written. Planning to test it in a few weeks.

I think you have YL body's. Mine are DM model. There are different type numbers for the plough. EP-J, EP-G and EP-C. The last letter has to do with the plough body's, but I don't know what it means.
Kind regards, Henk

hi
i think , but might be wrong , you're bodies are yl 165 , designed for shallow ploughing , it should ( ) have it stamped on the back of the body / mouldboard .
Some mornings I wake up grumpy, but most mornings I let her sleep in.

I have had a look for any markings on the boards but nothing stands out

I have since found a website selling spares and they do look like they could be YL's of some description. It does have YL cast in the points so I presume this is related to the boards too

I don't know very much about ploughs and it's good to learn something new, thanks for your help

It's for my wife as it happens, she is just starting out in a bit of local "Fun" ploughing and having borrowed a plough last time and thoroughly enjoyed it, I thought we ought to get our own :D
