Re: Pics of backhoe
How are you planing to mount it?
The Major was very popular for backhoe-use here in Norwaty (County too). On almost every conversion I have seen, the u-channels connecting the front axle to the gearbox is replaced with a subframe extending down and back under the rear axle. This subframe is a part of the backhoe. The tombstone in the front is not used anymore. Front axle is mounted to t.he subframe. Hydraulic pump and tank is mounted in front. This arrangement is also used on the smaller units...

My plan was to mount it to the frame of the front loader, but with the opportunity to take it of and use the 3pfrode wrote:How are you planing to mount it?

Re: Pics of backhoe
My Back hoe is a Massey. It has a pump mounted in the nose in front of the engine and was installed that way at the factory. From memory, Is not the New Majors pump only around 3 gallons per Minute. The Fordson backhoes I have seen all run off of a similar front mounted pump. If memory serves me right, these are around 8 gal Per minute pumps. Dandy Dave!
Have a Fordsonful day Folks!

Re: Pics of backhoe
could you not make it a pto pump?
or if you mounted it to the front you could link 2 systems together to have a greater LPM and live hydraulics
I like the design looks good but the slew pivot looks a bit light duty compaired with others. have you run stress tests on the model?
Regards,
John

Re: Pics of backhoe
Looking it up, my Masseys pump is 21.5 gallons per minute running at 2000 RPM. A PTO pump would need a similar flow at 540 RPM.

Isn't that a lot of RPM, do you have the tractor at 2000 RPM when digging???Dandy Dave wrote:Looking it up, my Masseys pump is 21.5 gallons per minute running at 2000 RPM. A PTO pump would need a similar flow at 540 RPM.

Re: Pics of backhoe
No, I never run it at full throttle. It is just a listed rating for the pump. Although the RPM gage on the tractor goes to 2,700, 2000 RPM is not out of the question for the 3 cylinder perkins. Dandy Dave!
