I finished my Dexta project!

Guys,

two weeks ago I managed to finished the work on my Dexta. I took me 2500 working hours in 5 1/2 year and I spent some 9000 Euro. The weather is getting bad over here, so I put her in my dry garage. She needs some winter sleep

.

The very last update on the project and the last pictures will come next spring time on my website. So please be a bit patient.

I hope you guys like the pictures ..... the beautyful lady at the controls is my lovely wife Susanne.

One question: I see from your website that you used the following paint scheme:
Fordson "Empire Blue", NH part# 9973449
Primer, NH part# 9973454
Thinner, NH part# 9973495
+ Owatrol Oil to improve flow.

Did you remove all old paint and rust to bare metal, or remove loose paint and rust? Did you use rust converter before applying the primer?

Everything Stefan does, he does very well indeed. That Dexta is gorgeous and his website is the main "competitor" of fordsontractorpages.nl

That Dexta is awesome. Note that it has the direction indicators, which are obligatory in Germany, but not the broad rear fenders with a seat (which were a feature on a batch of German market Dextas back in the day).

9000 euro's sounds like alot of money, but when we look at the detail of the work you've done, it seems to be not too expensive at all.
Whats the next project? A Major?

thanks for your compliments.

Henk, the Owatrol works fine. The viscosity is lower than water, so the paint will bed-in much better to the metal and the paint needs longer to dry. All that ends up in a elastic and shiny surface that should last for a long time. If the temperature is about 20 to 25 degrees Celcius, you dont need to ad thinner, or just a bit. I added 15% of Owatrol and about 5% thinner.

Ben, I remove all the old paint and rust to bare metal. It's a dead boring job. I did not used any rust converter. The first paint coat for the front wheels was Sparex paint. But I was not convinced on the quality of that paint. So I had to removed the paint. My second choice was Howard rotavator orange, which is also available from New Holland, part# 9973425.

Kiwi Kev, next project? I'm right now busy with the old Maack farm trailer. I dont plan to restore another tractor. I'm happy that the Dexta is finished and I enjoy my new freedom

I must say congratulations on a job well done. I have been watching your tractor restoration through your web site and the progress you have made for many years, and I must say I think that your Dexta must be the best restored Dexta in the world. Even more importantly you have shared the story with the whole world through your web site, which I am sure will guide many people in there efforts to repair their tractors for many years. I can't wait for the final installment.

Hey Barry,
That would be a nice one to put into you collection of tractors wouldn't it. Who knows we many slip over to Germany and take Stefans tractor out for a spin and get it dirty for him. Although he might be like you and have an armed guard on his garage.

you and the boys are always welcome to have a look at my tractor. But please give me a phone call just a couple of days before your arrival to give me enough time to hush up the oil leaks

The tractor has to come back from a spin in the same condition as handed over. Violations will be amerced bitterly by the full vengefulness of the owner ...

I'm told that New Holland have changed the part numbers for their Fordson Q-Coat paint.
I list both new and old part num below (1LTR):

Fordson "Empire Blue"... new NH pn: 87295334 (was 9973449)
Howard Orange..............new NH pn: 87295310 (was 9973425)
Grey Primer.....................new NH pn: 87295339 (was 9973454)
Thinner...........................new NH pn: 87295377 (was 9973495)

I'm told this may be because of a change in supplier, but that the colours SHOULD be the same!
