Battery Clamp

Post by Bensdexta »

Queensberry are selling these repro battery clamps.

Has anyone tried one?

Does it work with a modern battery?

The slots in the engine bulkhead for the hold-down bolts are a bit less than 9" above the battery tray, whereas my tractors E44 Varta Silver Car Battery (77Ah) is only 6.5" high. So no way the hold down bolts will fit in the slots, unless I pack up the battery with a 3" plank under it. :eyes:

So what's the answer? Weld on two lengths of threaded hold-down rod onto the bulkhead? Drill some holes in the battery tray for J-bolt hold-downs? Or just run a webbing strap under the tray - quite tempting?

Or do nothing - always a tempting option, just rely on gravity to hold the battery, perhaps aided by some foam rubber jammed around the sides.

hi , i made something the same as this for my s/dexta, only i have 2 L shaped brackets
welded on to frame with 1/2 nuts welded to these at 8 inch centers just oppisite the holes in the battery divider
plate ,one bolt screws through diveder plate and into frame it holds the battery firmly
i also put bolt through the far end of the
frame to rest against oil/air/breather box
which tightens up against the o/a/b ,this nut has a small plate tacked on to it so as not to mark the o/a/breather.
this does not screw into but just rests against the o/a/b to keep it firm, there is only the one screw to diconnect to remove the frame. no other rods or battery clips things needed . hope this itsnt to confusing, i will try and get photo up but having problems getting them from mobile to laptop . something to do with blue tooth ect :scratchhead:

Photos would be great!!

Especially if the original holes in the bulkhead are any use. Or if the hold-down bolts attach somewher else.
