Has anyone tried one?
Does it work with a modern battery?
The slots in the engine bulkhead for the hold-down bolts are a bit less than 9" above the battery tray, whereas my tractors E44 Varta Silver Car Battery (77Ah) is only 6.5" high. So no way the hold down bolts will fit in the slots, unless I pack up the battery with a 3" plank under it.

So what's the answer? Weld on two lengths of threaded hold-down rod onto the bulkhead? Drill some holes in the battery tray for J-bolt hold-downs? Or just run a webbing strap under the tray - quite tempting?
Or do nothing - always a tempting option, just rely on gravity to hold the battery, perhaps aided by some foam rubber jammed around the sides.
