PTO Overrun clutch

Post by MBeattie »

Anyone know where to get a Q/R Overrun clutch ? The one that came with my topper has a pin that goes through the middle, but by PTO shaft does not have a corresponding hole for the pin.. I have seen Q/R type, but cant find where to get one. Thanks
Thanks, Mark.

Many thanks. Now have an overrun clutch for the topper. Much much better, can actually stop now in less than 50ft !!
Thanks, Mark.

I don't know what a PTO overrun clutch is and when it would be useful. :scratchhead: :run:

Could someone educate me?

Older Ford tractors like the 9N, 2N, and 8N, early number series with a single stage clutch, some of the old Farmalls, and a few others need this as the momentum from the spinning topper will continue to push the tractor forward as the PTO runs though the transmission gears and rearend gears and does not dissconnect by pushing on the clutch or taking the pto out of gear like a modern tractor. The override clutch has a series of dogs that grab in one dirrection of spinning with the power on and will release with the power off. If you have never had the pleasure of running one of these old machines without the slip device it is an experiance not soon forgotton. Dandy Dave!

Thanks Dave. My friend does a lot of topping with a Major with a single stage clutch. I have heard him talking of the topper continuing to push the tractor forwards. I'll mention this to him.
