Just saw this on The Mail Online. It's the 75th anniversary of the A class steam train "Mallard" breaking the world record for a steam train of 126mph on 3rd July 1938 at Stoke Bank, just south of Grantham, Lincolnshire. It's kept at the National Railway Museum, York, and has been joined for the celebrations by two other A class," Dominion of Canada",and " Dwight D. Eisenhower".
Very Cool. Love the colours of the Mallard. A number of years ago while cleaning an old house out I came across an old book titled, "British Railway Locomotive Spotters Guide." It was fun to look through. I must have passed it on to a Rail Road collecting friend as I have not seen it in some years. Dandy Dave!
