Super Dexta 1963 radiator support help

Post by Bazzer »

Hi all, a little more help if possible please.
Is it just the top hose arrangements that supports the radiator at the top?
Tried looking for some images without a nose cone on but struggling, makes me think it's the top hoses preventing the rad rocking forward when full of coolant.
Thanks
Baz

There are some brackets there, but I don't have a pic of a Super Dexta.

Yea I have the brackets off the thermostat housing but they dont attach to the rad........well, not that I have seen!
I thought these hold the upper nose cone and then the bracket (part of the rad cap) at the end of the top hose attaches to the nose cone - but maybe be mistaken - seems strange to just use the top hose as a support so that's why I thought I maybe missing something / or not.
Again, I never removed all this so a little blind in truth - just trying to get everything together before the weekends jobs !!

Thanks Sandy

Ahhhh, I only have the two top ones from the stat housing - thats it.
OK, thanks Sandy, appreciate your time - some more investigation required as to where they have gone !!

Cheers

Hi Buzzer,
Firstly I must say that my nose cone had a transplant, the top section is of the original Super Dexta and the bottom section is of the Dexta. A bit of a messy job but serves my needs :D
Hence my pictures and hope they are clear to you, I am not sure if the radiator support brackets are meant to be bolted onto the two extensions from the top of the thermostat housing, I'm also doubtful of the fixings to the radiator. Hopefully someone can correct me. My other queriy is does the nosecone bolt on with the same radiator brackets. Whilst I am at this point I thought we may both learn something from the clever guys.
Regards
Mervyn.

Wow Mervyn, thanks so much for the images.
Guess this area proves a troublesome area, probably because you can't easily gain access to view.

Be good to see your finished project and thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
Cheers
Baz

Hi Bazzer, absolute pleasure.
I did have my nose cone on the tractor the other week but with out the little brackets that bolt onto the radiatora. I could for some reason not work out how they fitted. What I did was to slip the two bolts that can be seen in the pic of the nose cone into the slots of the two brackets on the themo housing and fastend them up.T he nose cone was very secure and the radiator filler held the radiator very firm. I will be attempting to bolt the nose cone, radiator support brackets to the brackets on the themo housing and see what success I have. If there is a correct way please can we be educated.
Regards Mervyn.

My earlier pics show it fitted. If your donor Dexta section is after April 1962, it should be a straight swap as Ford tried to have as many common parts as possible.

Unfortunately my Super Dexta section is off a 1963 tractor and the bottom section off a 1961 tractor. I appreciate your pics you posted, I cant quite identify the fixing arrangement and wondered if you could possible take a pic of the actual nose cone and radiator attachment to the brackets off the themo housing. As I mentioned in my first post the transplant was a bit of a mess.

Okay Sandy, having studied your pics again I think my idea of fixing all the components togetheris similar to what you have done. Once my nosecone is fixed I will take some pics and post.
