It's looking like engine and other oils with major distributors in my neck of the woods in France don't do a universal oil for engine, gearbox etc. (but I'll keep looking).
Rather, they offer 15w40 for engine and a multi-hypoid 80/90 for the rest.
I take it there's no problem for a '56 Major with this? Goodness knows what the last owner has been using for the past 30 years anyway.
The big local supermarket is offering their own brand 15w/40 (all temp and freely mixable) at €8,95 for 5 litres. That's half the price of the agri merchants. I read recently that modern oils are too good for old tractors. If that is the case would you use such a cheap oil throughout the tractor, bearing in mind next-to-no work and very little road mileage?
If it's a deal not to be missed, I want to be down there with my trailer and stocking up...
