Hello All, This is my first post so be gentle with me. I am restoring a 1962 super dexta with my son and my father. we have redone the engine the front axle and hubs and the steering linkage, so we are well on our way. the next job is the hydraulics to which we are all pretty much new too. I have the top cover off and the oil drained and resevoir cleaned out with a new filter in place. now my question is when we got the tractor the qualitrol position lever was held half way between qualitrol and draft control with a piece of wood, does anyone know why this would have been done and where would the wear be located that was been compensated for by holding the lever in this position.
Also is there anything else I should look at replace or check before I button her up again.

Welcome to the board.
The selector lever you ask about should be either up, parallel to the top cover when in Position control or pointing to the footplate in draft control. These are the only two positions so why it has been jammed midway is beyond me.
On the Wiki on this site, there is a step by step adjustment procedure. You need two words, fordsontractorpages and dotty to get in there.
Check that the Position control pin that runs on the lift arm cam, next to the con rod, is in good condition and nor worn through. If you do a search on the site there are lots of details about this pin. It is a fairly simple job to change.
Whilst you have the lift off, check that the Draft control spring and adjust er is free and well greased internally. If the turnbuckle that fits in the top link lever on the rear axle, is free and use plenty of Copper Slip or other anti seizure compound on the threads.

Before I adjusted my dexta it would not lift the arms unless I pushed the qualitrol lever part way down(probably what that wood is doing). The procrastinating person that I am, I continued that way until it got worse enough that even that would not work. Finally I decided I had to adjust and set up the hydraulics. Following the instructions that Brian laid out I realized I was done already and said to myself.... that was it? I should have done that years ago!!
