Super age

Post by essex pete »

Hi
My Father-in-l is reluctanty going to sell his old Super. It is rough and need a lot of work including tin work, engine and broken 1/2 shaft. It is complete with quite a well made loader (trip) and a proper auto pick up hitch. The engine will run but knocks. It is not a live drive.

1522228 on engine and 3J3 on g/box casting.

What sort of price should he ask for it? Is it purely scrap money?

Thanks Peter

Essex Pete
The number 1522228 gives it a date of late 1959, but the 3J3(according to me) makes the gearbox build date of 3 July 1963. Someone correct me if I'm wrong
If you say it is a Super, then it must have had a replacement Power Major engine at some time.
More date codes or photos would help, but at the end of the day, it's probably not going to affect the value of it.

Could be a Major ASP! :D Definitely a 1959 engine and a 1963 gearbox. The loader may be the answer, if it has been used hard the gearbox outer housing could break and someone has fitted a new one.

Has it got disc brakes and dif lock?

Broken halfshaft and knock in engine will bring the price down to scrap value but you might be better breaking it down yourself and selling the parts. The hitch would be worth something and so would the loader.

It is definitely pre new performance super major but I was not sure of the engine. It has probably been re-engined. It has air gov.
It is fitted with disc brakes, diff lock, draught control and a super nose cone.
Thanks for the replies.

Pete,
I have been around now all my life and still searching to find that "super age" seems all the same to me. Now more like in a quick wild ride to the bottom of a six foot hole!!;))

Some men always thought they wanted to be farmers, what they discovered really, is that they only just wanted to drive the tractors! ;)
