Not Made in China

Post by JC »

I needed a new combination square, because I used my old one so much that it was no longer square. Since I use it everyday and it needs to be accurate, I thought that I would try to find one that wasn't made in China. Here's what I found. I was kind of surprised.

That measuring is pretty dangerous stuff, DD :D .

The sad thing is, some dipstick will use one to measure his fan belt while the engine is running, and then sue them for $10 mil. for not warning him not to do it.

OK, it says "Made in England" but what?
It also says " The Stanley Works, New Britain, ... USA.
You'll see the frame is 'diecast'.
Bet you it was cast in somewhere like middle east, the packaging was 'made in england' and the whole thing was put together, for sale, at the Stanley works in the USA.

Maybe I'm synical - Maybe I'm just experienced :D

Mike,
If only the packaging was made in England, it should have said "Printed in England", or something like that. Over here, when it says " Made in ____", it means the actual product. If parts of it were made elsewhere, and it was assembled in New Britain, it should have said "Made in USA from globally sourced parts". That's the way it has been for several years, but I've noticed, lately, that some things don't say where they're made at all. Something may have changed

It seems to be fairly good quality, Ben. The 40-year-old one that I replaced, was also a die-cast Stanley, so I'm hoping for the best.

Let's hope so.
