Hello everyone, I need to find out the machining size for the main bearing tunnel as the bearing shells were moving from excessive bearing clearance and I am having them closed up and remachined.
Can anyone please tell me the size to have the bearing cap bores in the block machined to?

Hi Mike,
There is no specification given in the book for the main bearing outer diameter. Be aware that some blocks had oversized main bearing shells which are impossible to get.
The book does however quote the liner thickness and the journal size which may help you.
Journal diameter ... 3.0002" to 3.0010" (76.205 to 76.225 mm).
Liner thickness (Standard) ... .082" to .08225" (2.083 to 2.088 mm).
What have you been doing to that poor old girl to stretch the main bearings? The only time I have heard of anything like that was if a crank had broken and in that case the block had to be line bored and oversized mains fitted. These are now impossible to find here in England.

Mike, on the offchance that you might consider getting a second hand block, or motor, you might like to contact the tractor and machinery wreckers at Torbay [near Denmark.] Whilst I have no idea if they presently have motors for the Majors, I've been there a couple of times for parts for my Major. It's a huge place of about 10 acres. They are:-
