Power Steering Question
I have a super major with factory power steering. Lately the power steering seems to be weak in both directions. There are no external leaks. We haven’t done a pressure test on the pump, but it appears to be working as the pressure line jumps as you turn the steering, just doesn't seem to be any power assist. Could the problem be in the cylinder or any broken or worn parts in it? Just looking for any tips for trouble shooting, an idea of what the pressure should be at the pump or a drawing I could use. Thanks.
Re: Power Steering Question
Don't have power steering on my own major, I believe this will help you out.

If you strip the cylinder, you need to be percise in the in the assebly that all parts are in the right order and the right way.

Re: Power Steering Question
First, Clean the filter in the pump and be sure the pump is pumping. Most likely the seals, packing, and O rings in the cylinder are leaking. The valve that actuates the cylinder is in it and works off of the drag link that goes to the steering box. My tractor would not steer at all when I got it and fought me in one direction. It was because this valve seized. I got new O rings and packing's from my local Hydraulic parts and repair shop. Mine has been working great ever since. Dandy Dave!
Have a Fordsonful day Folks!
