Hi folks - recently bought a '58 Major Diesel.
Have been checking the lubrication and everything looks good.
I easily located the dipstick for the rear axle oil level but having more trouble identifying the axle oil filling plug. The diagram in the manual I bought only vaguely points to the location. Getting my inspection lamp out and taking a close look I think the filling point may be a 15/16" (24mm) hex plug set at an angle on the plate above the axle underneath the right hand side of the seat. However not convinced as it will be very difficult to get a funnel in the hole to allow me to put oil in.
Can a Major Diesel owner please confirm or point me in the right direction
thanks

Re: location of rear axle oil filling plug
Backend filler is behind the seat
Re: location of rear axle oil filling plug
Hi Chriss,
Not sure if is behind the seat or to the right.
Here is a picture of the backend of mine - only plug is the offtake for the hydraulic line

The plug I was thinking of is under and to the right of the seat - here is a good pic of the plug (not my tractor unfortunately, but on mine there is a plug is in exactly the same position) The seat slide frame is above and in front oif the plug.

thanks

Hi, it's the plug which somebody's used to return hydraulic oil back into the rear aaxle which is quite common so the top picture is correct. I'm not sure what the other plug is for, i've always meant to take mine out just to find out, when I do I'll let you know.

Hi Stu - thanks for that. I was reluctant to take the line off and remove that plug as I feared hydraulic fluid spewing out from the line once I disconnected it - I assume that this isn't going to happen right ??

No you'll be absolutely fine as long as the engine isn't running, it looks like a return possibly for a loader?
