G'day from a proud owner in Australia

Post by Andree »

G'day Folks, how are you all? Hopefully you are all well.
My name is Andree, based on a little 100acre Shark in a town called Toolern Vale, Victoria, Au. I have just purchased my first tractor, after many hours on the net, and visiting this site as a guest, I ended falling in love with the Fordson.
Well I am the proud owner of a New Major 1954.

Hope the picture has worked. As I am currently away for work, and on a mobile phone.
As you can see, she is no concourse model, and she will need to earn her keep here. But she will get some well deserved TLC.
But as all us proud owners, just wanted to introduce her, and myself to you all.
Thanks
Andree

G'day Andree & welcome, nice looking Major - the climate has been nice to her over the years from the photo.

You are not alone down there in the land of the Chamberlain, surprising number of Blue lovers, some active here - although so far none running their Fordson on eucalyptus oil that I've heard of  despite those 'orrible exhausts

Welcome to the board Andree, I am starting to look on Victoria as my second home.

There are many Fordson lovers in your area and you might like to contact Barry and Dawn Milsom of The Fordson Tractor Club of Australia at Mandurang South near Bendigo. I can thoroughly recommend their Fordson gatherings for the cakes, trifles and buns alone. :D

There is a big club gathering in September 2017 at Denelequin NSW, {probably spelt wrong} to celebrate 100 years of Fordson in Australia and Ann and I hope to be there.

Good choice there Andree, welcome. I`m sure you will find this site helpful either just by reading the topics as they arise and or when asking or offering advice yourself. A lot of the characters on here are really clever and know their stuff, but there are also plenty like me, blundering through but getting there with help from all who offer, its fantastic!! Dave

Welcome Andree.

Yes, you have come to the right place.
Looks a grand tractor. Big strong rear rims on that one. See it has a disc on the back. These tractors work very well with brush mowers.
I used to cut all the (farm) yard with a little J-D. ride-on lawnmower. Took forever. now I use a brush mower set well down on the Fordson, and get done in a lot less time.

Look forward to progress reports on her.

Richard.

Thanks for the welcome,

Yes been looking at the Fordson Club, will be contacting them soon.
Right now, priority is to get her home, work has been interfering, with some away work,
Plan once home, is a good clean, fix up the brakes as both cables are snapped , which I feel happen many moons ago.
Then it's out to the paddock to do some ripper/pipe laying work.
Note all oil leaks, source parts, drop oils, fix leaks, fresh oil. Then
Back out to sracth up the first paddock.
Stuck with the thought of repainting, a they do look quite sexy all
In fresh paint, but she all so has a good natural look now. There is a bit of, Rust here and there, which I want to fix up. But then forces me to paint.
Oh, the front end is a bit loose, so need to play with that too.
Yeah the rear wheels are wearing split rims, which kind of tells me she may have spent some of her life somewhere remote, where tyre repairs are done on farm.
All so missing a tacho, there is a drive for it, but there is no place to mount actual tacho dial,
Anyway, need to go back to work.
Talk soon, stay safe folks
Andree

Do not think she has ever been fitted with a taco as you have a straight throttle handle. the Major taco mounted on the side of the instrument panel and the throttle was a special extra that was bent to go around it.

G'day Brian,
Thanks for that, what had me confused, or more to the point. There looks to be a broken stub of a cable drive, it's located in front of injector pump, and mounted on back of timing cover, not sure if the picture quality good enough to see. But what would this be for ?
Thanks
Andree

I know exactly what you mean Andree, will post a picture shortly. I was wrong, it is a taco but not as we know it. :eyes: The Aussie one fits on the opposite side to the "normal" one.
