I had the starter rebuilt on my Super Dexta, the man that rebuilt it replaced the clutch nose mechanism with a ratchet type mechanism. He said this type was more durable than the original.
About once out of every ten times when I go to start the tractor the teeth of the starter will not mesh with the ring gear. The starter teeth hit the ring gear teeth square on rather than engaging together. I have to put the tractor in sixth gear and rock the rear wheel to move the engine slightly, then everything works well. Is this something that occurs with the original starter mechanism? Is there any adjustment to get the starter to begin to turn right as the starter gear reaches the ring gear?
