Hi,
Questions, questions...so
Anyone know how many Dextas and Super Dextas were made?
Any ideas on prices when new?
I'd always thought that the Dexta was named after the Dexter small cattle breed. If so, was there a reason for the spelling change?
Thanks.

Re: Dexta production run and prices
There has been an ongoing debate ever since the launch about the name. Your option is one of the commoner thoughts, but others claim it comes from Dextrous meaning agile. There was also something about another name translating into a rude word which dropped that.
Prices were some £500-£600 depending on specification and year. Narrow models were £100 dearer due to KFD's conversion work.I think Live clutches were £25. I'll add more prices tomorrow.
217818 were made, only 64496 of those were Super Dexta's, but by then there were not many Dexta's being made. 87567 were made with minimecs.

Re: Dexta production run and prices
Very interesting, thanks for that. I guess 'Minor' had been trade marked by Morris at that time.
Looking forward to finding out what they would have cost new.

Cadet was also seen, on some prototypes.
As for prices in 1961 it was as follows:
Std tractor £573 13s
Live clutch £21 15s
Pick up hitch £16 3s
Belt pulley £16 10s
Front wheel weights £8 1s
Rear wheel weights £19 14s
DAR valve £15 4s
DAR valve plus piping and couplings £19 5s
Tipping pipe plus coupling £3 1s
Linkage drawbar £4 12s
Swinging drawbar £8 1s
exhausts were vertical or horizontal for the same price
Oil £2
Golf course model less hydraulics £539 5s
Narrow model £640 17s
horn plus lights extra on Narrow tractors
In June 63 the Dexta cost £620, the Super Dexta was £666.
Major's are much more complicated, as there are lorries and industrials to add plus Ebro.
