Super Dexta fuel pump timing advice

Post by Bluebilly »

When removing the injector pump I mistakenly undid the 3 nuts on the gearwheel without marking it. I did mark the meshing gear teeth but I dont think that is much use now.

I plan to open the timing cover and set the timing up to top dead centre then refit the pump. How do I know the exact position for the file pump to ensure its injecting at the correct angle?
Ive hunted through the internet and youtube without much luck, so I'm hoping someone here can give me the correct procedure or point me in the direction of a pdf procedure so I can get it setup correctly

Did the gear come off? If not just line up the gear timing mark, then turn the engine onto no. 1 on compression. Keep turning till a spill mark appears in the timing inspection apperture on the bell housing. This is at 26ºBTDC, for pneumatic governors. For minimecs carry on till a second spill mark at 20ºBTDC, if there's no second spill mark you'll need to use a phasing disk on the crank pulley lined up correctly. Once set at 20ºBTDC, line up the mark on the injector pump with the timing pointer and tighten the three bolts on the injector pump gear. If you suspect the pump is not marked correctly you'll need to check it by spill timing. A Ford repair manual will hopefully soon be on the site.
