Is this engine common are there many in USA?
Is it any good? Are parts hard to get? What years were they used? Where they used in any other tractors? Anything you could add would be hepful.
Thanks Tmac

The engine was one of the worst starting diesels ever built and very complicated with split liners. Fergy lost a large market share to the Dexta because of this engine.

It was fitted in the grey/gold FE35 and the early MF135 only as far as I know and was replaced by the Perkins engines.

Brian,

My wifes family owns a 1957 Grey/Gold 4 cyl Ferguson, I think designated the FE35.
It was overhauled a few years ago and I ran it in for 2 days of slashing.
Even with new liners and rings it took a new battery to start it and it wouldn't fire without the heater plug. and it isn't cold over here.
Once running it was a great engine.

Cheers
Colin

Well guys I bought this tractor anyways. Junk price. The engine hasnt run for years. I bought it for some parts that it has. It is all there but I have an extra MF 35 A3-152 complete engine if I want to make go. By they way I have seen several of the MF 35 with the diesel 4 and not one running. Now I know why.

While all you guys werent looking I bought a good running MF 35 with the "go fast trany"
12 speed. Perkins engine. Didnt want to say anything around here about it. The guy that sold it wanted to sell the tractor and 2yd hyd 4 wheel pan scraper together. Tractor and scraper was 1/4 the price together with scraper, than I could buy a new scraper for. Seems the small scrapers are real hard to find at all. Been looking for some time now.
The good MF 35 may need work on the injectors it seems to misfire at high power settings and I can smell raw fuel then. But it needs to warm up a bit around here for me to work on anything been "0" every morning around here and dont get above 20 every day for the last 3 weeks with a foot of snow. Brrrrrrrrr thats cold
Thanks TT

PS My Dexta starts every morning

Just found this post and thought i better give my comments, i own a 23c diesel and it wouldnt start for love nor money even on a warm day!!!! i was getting rather fed up with it so I stripped it down and drilled out the injector ports in the head, while on I replaced pistons and liners and valves and springs. also replaced the timing chain and tensioner (which was just about to fall off) then altered the pump timing. finished her only the other week and it starts perfectly in any weather. My main advice is to make sure the timing is spot on. they are a lovely engines if you can over come the poor starting.

Well Iam just getting this tractor FE 35 delivered tomorrow. I get to see it for real. Just seen pics of it. See if it is a fixer )
or a part out ;((. It does have the MF remote valve on it.

Would like to hear more about this head drill out fix? Checked out your MF 35 pics looks great. Lot of work there! My FE 35 looks to be in about the same condition as yours was maybe a little worse. Not to worry I have a good one with 12 speed trans and a P3 perkins D. Runs great but has a little blow by, maybe it will get better with use, it had set for about 10 years before I just started it. Rings may be stuck or lost tension from setting.

I thank you for you help, but it seems that this engine is beyond any economical help. Will just part to those who need orginal tractors. And not being a good starter anyhow I have found a good used perky 3 Diesel to fix her up and get it online again. Iam not much into orginality I just use them old tractors as they are good also easy to work on and cheap to own ya right! ) But they do the job I need.
