Hello all,

I have the luxury of purchasing either a Super Major or a Super Major 5000 tractor, and I'd like to know besides the increase of HP from 52 to 54, what are the pros and cons to each?

Thanks,

Dean Kreutzer

The Super Major 5000 is the same as the New Performance Super Major. The modifications made from the Super Major are as follows:

1. Revised Gearbox Ratios.

2. Revised Rear axle ratio.

3. Revised PTO ratios (540rpm at higher engine rpm, thus increased pto hp)

4. Revised cylinder head, marked "FL" near no1 injector. This mod increased swirl in the intake port and reduced smoke.

5. Drop control valve added to 3pl.

6. Double acting top link draft control to eliminate problems with draft control not working well with 4 furrow plough.

7. Colour change from Empire blue with orange wheels to Ford Tractor Blue with Ford Tractor Grey wheels, fenders.

8. The North Americam tractors had a Grey hood and were badged "Ford 5000".

9. UK tractors got pressed steel front wheels for the first time.

10. Fordson decal replaced chrome badge on side of hood.

11. Increase in engine rpm to give higer hp.
