Hi, could anyone pls help date my major, the serial num. on the front/top of the engine block is S835549. From reading other enquiries on your bulletin board it seems this might not help. Casting codes:- under the seat is EIA DKN 994787 T1 A22D, on the engine block is EIA DDN 6015 G, on the rear axial B10D. It`s a 4 cyl diesel. Paint is all Blue with red wheel rims. It has drum brakes on short shafts just infront of the axials, and a belt power take-off on the right hand side. the rear tyres are 36" rims. The front rims are steel not cast. It has a small badge on the radiator grill with "Live power take off, Live hydraulics"

Simon,
Your casting codes date the lift at January 22nd 1960 and your rear axle at February 10 1960. I would therefore suspect that your tractor was built in March 1960. It has had an industrial engine fitted from a combine or other source but there should be a casting code on the engine under the manifold. post this for dating as well if you like.

regards

Brian

Thanks Brian,
My eng block code is B22D (which is above the manifold, not below as you suggest, so I hope I've got the right thing).
The code above the clutch linkage is A1D.
Looking at the casting code infomation on this site (which I'm now begining to understand) this confirms Jan/Feb 1960.
Next question; is the tractor likly to have been sold and registered in the same year? If so, that would help me to narrow the search of the councils archive to find its original license plate. Have you any experience of tracing plates and maybe offer some advice?.

Simon,

You have found the cylinder head code but it does confirm the age. 1960.

Normally the tractor would have been sold and registered fairly quickly although some farmers would not register their tractors at all.

The National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club would be the best place to get information about registration difficulties. Try NVTEC,PO Box 1705, Yate Bristol, BS37 6RJ.
