All was going so well ... ran nice, idoled nice ... and then I parked it. When I restarted the next day, lots of white smoke and excessive rpm. Would only idol down if I manually pulled the lever at the back of the injector pump back.

Following the I&T Manual, I suspect the governor. Checked the filtre on the top (totally plugged) so am soaking that in solvent. Removed the vacuum lines from governor to intake manifold, pulled the lever at the back of the injector pump back as far as it would go, covered the vacuum line holes tightly with my fingers and let the lever go. It returned to its normal position. In fact, when I pull the lever back and forth I feel no sign of suction. Is it likley the diaphram is my problem?

Thanks.

If you sealed the vacuum line holes and the fuel shut off lever returns to normal position then it is a diaphram problem. Some people on this board and others have used silicone to repair small tears with success. I think a replacement at NH is about $80Cdn.

High Quality HT RTV Silicone works but only for a while. Use Nylon stocking or Panty hose to
reenforce larger tears. Wash well with alcohol
or enamel reducer ER before patching or the RTV wont hold due to oil residue. I done this on my dexta lasted about 2 months of continious use. Had a BIG tear, if smaller may have held longer. This is only a temp patch not a fix. But you need to be finding a New or Good used one. It tore because its time is up, old, rotten and used up. Just think it may be 40 to 50 years old.

Thanks to the two of you. The diaphragm was torn in 3 places. Found a new one on the shelf at a fuel injection service shop for $65 CDN. The New Holland dealer wanted $100.18 CDN.
