Hello,Brian I am installing a new large 12 volt battery in my 1961 Super Major and I just realized when removing the old batterys that the positive side was to earth or ground? I checked the book and it says the same thing,I would just like to hear it from the chap in the know department before I electra fry myself!! I thought Ford started using negitive ground around 1955 0r 1956?? Thanks for your help in advance.

Best Regards
Mac

Hi,

I'm not Brian, but I'm sure that all UK build Fordsons had positive ground electrical systems.

Emiel,
Thanks for the reply! I know your expertice is as good as gold!! I guess I just never paid that much attention to which way the batterys were hooked up before. I just happened to be paying attention when I pulled the old ones out this time! Did they ever go to the negative ground system?? I know the older Ford cars in the States used to be positive ground till around 1955 or 1956.

Best Regards

Mac,
I am reinforcing what Emiel says. Majors were positive ground until they finished production. Negative ground came in with the "X" series in 1964.

Mac,
If you goto Oscars Home page, select 'The New Major' drop down menu select 'SuperMajor' then Owners Manual. The Electrical Drawing for this tractor is on page 54. Click on 54-55.

John
