Brian/Oscar,Last week I posted some enquiries regarding the Super Dexta that I have recently purchased. I said that it was a 1964 because the registration plate indicates this but after your tips on where to find the casting codes etc and quite a good article (Dexta Buyers Guide) in the November issue of Tractot & Machinery, I tend to think that it is a 1962-63. Brian I think I recall you commenting on the Major forum that a registration plate alone cannot be a true indication of the year of manufacture, I think this to be the case with my Super Dexta, could you please confirm from the following information whether it is a 1962 or 1963:- Serial No 09B724643 taken off the flange Engine No 1609986 Casting Codes:- By brake pedal L25H By flywheel housing L24H Under seat L13H I'm unable to locate the casting code on rear axle at present the safety roll bar which is currently fitted has a cover plate which goes over the axle where the code is located. The bar will have to come off anyway so I will locate this at a later date. Regards, IP: Logged |

BarryOn this site http://fordson.freeweb.nl/ (i.e. the home page of the one your using), under the "General" tab there's a section called "Serial numbers, casting codes and production dates" this contains all the relevent information. The LxxH refers to September 1962, so they were cast on the 24th, 25th or 13th September 1962 depending on the numbers in the middle. The serial number indicates April - December 1962 and the engine number indicates a super dexta engine, you can't date using this but my '64 dexta engine number is 1662163 so yours is sequentially well before this. If you get the injector pump type as follows, you can determine whether its a new performance one or not, however the 09B serial number and casting codes dictates thats its not unless a lot of parts have been swapped, i.e all but the pump! http://www.mount-pleasant-farm.co.uk/dexta/dexta-before.html#injector_pump It looks like yours is a '62. Hope this helps! Andy [This message has been edited by Andy Yates (edited October 18, 2005).] IP: Logged |

Brian/Andy,Thanks guys, much appreciated. If I can ever master the skill of posting photos I will do so, I'm sure you will then agree that although she seems complete there is a great deal of work to be done. Regards, Barry IP: Logged |

Brian,The old buff log book for the Super Dexta arrived through my door yesterday, the previous owner kept his side of the deal and must have slipped it through when passing. I just wanted to say that you were spot on with your estimated delivery date of early October from the casting codes I gave you. It was actually 9th October 1962. Spot on. Regards, Barry IP: Logged |
