Some people will never understand the colour-layout of a dexta

Very true, but what intrigues me is the exhaust, it must have a manifold similar to an MF35?

If and when I paint my fordson that is how I paint all of mine ). Then everone thinks a Ford and I dont have to explain what a Fordson is!
Every one always asks what the dexta is I just say it is a Ford 2000. Saves time. Both Dexta's and Majors are really rare site in the Pacific NW. So no one knows about colors. Around here where Iam there are no OLD (30 or more years) tractors of any kind that are regular in use. They are all BIG 100HP plus mostly giant 300hp rigs or ag cats. Farms here are big mostly 5000 acres +++. I have seen one Big Bud tractor that could be as much as 500Hp.
When I was complaining obout the cost of my 5 gallon fuel can fill up I get 2 at a time. The Fuel company told me most of their fram fuel deliverys are mostly around $7500. I run about a week on 5 gal in the Dexta, and thats moving dirt or brush hogging!

I do wonder if they covered the hole or it really is a MF 35 manifold put on a low exhaust hood machine. That in some ways would work nice to open the hood without having to pull the muffler all the time to open the hood. I have a MF35 and really dont care for the Tip up hood on them, and the fuel tank over the engine. On those It is real hard to get to the engine, and the tank DONT come easy;((.

The manifold is something very common as the horizontal outlet is very difficult to find :
You take the standard manifold for the horizontal outlet.
Where the pipe fits, an elbow from BEPCO is fitted

(this converts the down outlet to an upwards outlet). Now just mounta vertical Dexta damper or something else that fits. Ready

Greetings
Jos

Chaps,
The colours look correct for a New Performance Dexta 1963 to 1964.

Thanks Brian for clarifing the colour of the 1963/4 Dexta. I was puzzled initially because I could not understand why Jos made the statement. With respect, maybe Jos could enlighten us on what he feels or sees different about the colour layout.

Brian,

New performance is a super dexta as far as I remember) but this is a standard dexta building year : 1960.

That person also has a Major and guess what, exactly the same colour.

Jos,
That's a common mistake. There were New Performance Dexta's and Super Dexta's.

A lot of people believe that the Dexta evolved into the Super Dexta but they were two different tractors and remained so throughout their build. The Dexta retained the smaller engine and different bonnet/cowl line.

From 1963 to 1964 they were both painted grey and New Performance blue which is a lighter blue than the Empire Blue of the earlyier models.

If the Dexta in your picture is pre-1963 then it is wrong but after 1963 it is nearly correct.

Kind regards
Brian

The two most discussed topics here of all time: colours and serial numbers . That's not likely to change.

Guys,
I think this Dexta tells us nothing about it's identity. Many restorers put to much "artwork" into their projects. This Dexta doesn't wear any decals or badges, so that makes it a bit difficult to time it. The only attribute I can see is that the old girl is fitted with a left hand footrest, and tractors built after June 1959 were delivered without a left hand footrest. So it seems to be a very early model.

Hi
Two things still elude me, firstly, should the seat pan have been painted grey or is it correct as painted in the pic? secondly, Brian you mention that the NP Dexta and Super Dexta were painted a lighter blue than empire blue - is there a NH number or code? I'm sorry to belabour this paint issue but I'd really like to get it right if at all possible

Thanks
Mervyn Spencer

Thanks for that Brian, wasnt to sure as i had read they all changed after 62 to minimec, i suppose there are a lot of dextas which have the pumps mixed up , which adds to the confussion, Regards Gerry
