Hi Folks. New to posting here but have been reading for a while. Now i know nothing about tractors but am learning slowly. I am currently helping my in-laws rebuild what i think is a 58 diesel dexta and im doing the electrics. Rather than install a new loom i have just put in a new ignition switch and patched the wiring. I have also installed new lamps for the Charging and Oil Pressure. There was no wiring there in the first place. The Oil Pressure Lamp works fine. Goes off when the engine starts. The problem is the Charging light comes on and stays on.....i was told it should go out. There is a thick yellow wire and a thin yellow wire coming from the regulator to the generator. Spliced into the thin wire is Charging Lamp. I appreciate any help thanksIP: Logged |

Hi,The purpose of the ingnition light is to provide current to the generator to enable it to generate voltage on start up. Once the generator is charging the light should go out. Your problem suggests that either the generator is not charging at all or it is not generating sufficient voltage to charge the battery. There are some simple tests which can be carried out and these are explained in the workshop manual, if you do not have a copy you can download one from Stephans web site www.fordson-dexta.de Happy trouble shooting. Hi,Further to my earlier post, I should have mentioned that you need to ensure that the warning light bulb which you have now fitted is 2.2 watts, as this effects the amount of current flowing to the generator. Regards Gerald IP: Logged |

Gerald,A dynamo does not need current via the warning lamp to work, only an alternater. On a dynamo the warning light is just what it says, its the regulator that controls the field current. ------------------ Kind regards Brian IP: Logged |

Brian, I stand corrected. Obviously now that I am approaching three score years and ten I must not rely on my memory as it can lead to confusion. Best regards. Gerald IP: Logged |
