Hey guys, long time viewer first time poster since I've now registered.

I realise that this topic may have been done to death but I have some questions I would like answering.

Reading various posts, and looking at many pictures, I am rather confused as to what paint codes/colours a Super Dexta should be in.

It seems that people are recommended that the "grey" to be used is more of a cream than a grey by definition. I'm sure we've all seen this on the rally field at some point. The Blue also seems to be an issue. I notice in one topic that a "lighter than empire blue" was used on the Supers. Again I have seen this at Rallies and tractor shows.

The problem for me is as follows. My Super, 1963, has a grey and blue colour scheme. However, the wheels and wings are light grey, near white, and the blue is clearly Empire Blue. (It's still in it's original livery underneath the "protective" layer the previous owner put on.)

The reason I question about these other colours people seem to paint there Supers is because when I went to purchase some paint, as a tester before I decide to to paint my new badge, the man at the paint shop (Former Mason's paints seller) got out a colour book to find the codes. Conveniantly the book was dated 1963 and noted that the Ford Tractor colours for that time were Fordson Empire Blue and Ford Tractor Grey. The grey, as some may know, is nearly white. This matches the wheels and wings. The blue, as I mentioned, is also the same.

Now the question has to be asked. Where have these other colours come from?

Now, this is beginning to be a terribly long post but I shall continue. I have never seen on a restored Super, or standard Dexta vinyl letters spelling "DOWN" on the Wing by the Hydraulic Controls. This is also conveniently under the protective layers of paint. Anyone else have this? I'll try get pics when the sun's at the right angle.

Finally, just to add my two penneth to another old debate. My Great-Grandfather bought a Dexta new and my Father can remember the grills being painted silver every year. No Orange.

That is all for now, thanks for reading, and for the forum of course!

Welcome to the board Dan.

Regarding colours. Until 1963 and the colour change, all Dexta and Major tractors were painted Empire Blue.

When they went to Blue and Grey (as you say really cream) Dextas and Super Majors were painted Super Major Blue which is the same colour as the '000nd series. This is a slightly lighter blue than Empire Blue.

Both these colours are available from your CNH dealership.

The New Performance Super, from the factory was never Empire Blue and neither were any of the range.

Kind regards
Brian

Thanks very much for such a quick response.

Hopefully in a couple of years I'll have a Super not even the "tyre kickers" can gripe about!
