Solenoid?

Got it a while ago. But the starter solenoid but it was different from the original. but it was a contact that is not on the original solenoid.

try grounding the extra contact.

If the solenoid was ment for an 8n, 9n, or 2N ford, John.N would be correct. The solenoid for those had an isolated winding that was not grounded though the case. One small wire was always hot. The other small wire was grounded on the transmission case when the starter button was pushed which energized the electromagnet. This is the click that you hear. Therefour at least one wire wire must be grounded.

If the solenoid is grounded though the case, then be sure that the case is bolted to the tractor snug with clean areas for a good ground. Dandy Dave!

I have a Fordson super major. I bought the solenoid button type on agriline.
