big end torques

just a quick one after replacing shell bearings on bottom of piston what torque should the 2 bolts be at , its a 1954 diesel major.

are we talking about the original 4 cylinder engine or a 6 cylinder?? what was wrong with the shells? were they worn or scored? have you had to have the crank reground??

its a friends 4 cyl, old ones where scored no regrind, he is doing a basic engine re build with new rings and shells.

hope this helps you I just went out in the workshop and looked in my book it says on all majors the rod cap torque should be 55- 60 ft- lbs. if you need any other settings just ask. I will be in and out of the house most of the day and i'll get back to you a.s.a.p

It makes no difference what engine of the Major/590 E range you have, all the torque settings are the same.

It is best to fit new lock nuts rather than use the old ones.

Torque is :

Head .. 85 to 90 ft/lbs
Mains .. 1/2" = 70 to 75 lbs ft, 9/16" 95 to 100 lbs/ft.
B/Ends .. 55 to 60 lbs/ft.
Fly Wheel .. 80 to 90 lbs/ft.
