I have cleaned out oil bath air cleaners by taking them off and dunking them in mineral sprits or laquer thinner in a wash pan. Then I have Blown them out with compressed air. Starve a Diesel for air and all sorts of funny things happen. These are a too often neglected part of the tractor. Dandy Dave!

Found my luck again.
The major was doing well yesterday. We had a wonderful road run on a beautiful scenery.

All the problems were caused by a little bit to much oil in the air filter.
As you say Dave I will clean it good because the filter is still a bit wet with oil.

I could of saved myself a lot of work if I hadn’t thought it was an injector, but as we say One is wiser after the market is closed.
But now I had a lesson injectors, pressure and leak testing.

A former college of mine told me that the oil level in the oil bath cleaner has to make an open connection from inlet to outlet of the filter. Because the dust parts have to make a sharp turn they fall into the oil. I was thinking the air had to go trough the oil.
What’s correct?
At what mark should the oil pan be filled? To the grove in the pan that makes the oil level so high that it closes the connection or to the small holes that are in the pan, that makes an open connection.
Can't find an answer in the books.

The level is the groove. It should be marked "oil level".
The air does pass through the oil to wash out the fine grit, the direction change cleaning is done by the cap on the top which causes a swirling motion asthe air comes in.

I found out that the bottom filter unit can't only be fitted with the rounded side up. The pipe with the rounded edge is going upwards in the housing. I think it has to be the other way up. Therefore the pipe from that filter unit is going deeper into the oil, making it harder to let the air pass. So the normal level wouldthan be to high for my unit.
I think that's the start of all the problems.
I assume that the filter elements inside the housing can be removed. There stuck on mine.
