Help!!

Post by frosty »

Hi everyone. I have just bought a fordson major diesel.... or thats what it says on the bonnet, the only number i can find on it is on the right hand side (as you sit on it) of the engine block, which is stamped 15/7/68!!! it has been registered with dvla on a Q plate. I want to put right a number of bits on it and paint it but i dont know what model and year it is which makes it impossible to find/ order parts. Can anyone please help?????By the way i live in malvern worcs just in case there is an authority on fordsons out there who lives locally to me and could help thanks Adrian

Hello Adrian,

Welcome to the board.

Can't make anything out of your number.

Check these things.
Drum brakes, no clocks under the steering wheel. Throttle lever trough the block: New Major from 1952 until April 1957.
The same but throttle lever in front of the block: New Major April 1957 until July 1958.
The same but clocks under the steering wheel: Power Major July 1958 until November 1960.
Disk brakes: Super Major November 1960 until July 1963
Grey fenders and wheel rims: New Performance Super Major july1963 until October 1964
Kind regards, Henk

Hi Adrian,
Welcome to the forum.
Zeros in the engine numbers on some (maybe all) Majors are kind of a strange triangle shape. Could you be mistaking those for a forward slash (/) ? Your number could be 1507068. If so, it's an April 1959 Power Major. Can you post some pictures? That would help identify it.

Hi I have now put some images of the tractor which can be seen at http://www.lakehousemalvern.co.uk/fordson/1.jpg through to 15.jpg I have re looked at the serial no. which i believe is 1517168 one of the images shows this no. clearly. I also have looked around on the internet, and believe it to be a power major of 1959 or 1960. I would appreciate any conformation. Thanks for your help Adrian

I just get 1 image which could be any Major from 1957 to 1962 then Access denied.

From your number you have a July 1959 Power Major but we would need more information, like date codes, to be sure as engines, and numbers can be moved from tractor to tractor.

Hi, Brian. I take it you are altering the image number in the address bar? That is working for me.

Hi guys, I have just checked the images and yes you have to change the no. at the end of the address bar, numbering from 1to15.jpeg If there is any more info anyone needs to help identify please let me know. i am very grateful for any info. it would seem that the engine at least is a july 1959 Power Major. Ive spoken to DVLA who have told me that if i can show proof of its age i can get it registered with an age related number plate rather than the horrible Q plate it is presently allocated. Having looked at loads of fordsons over the last week i feel that it is a power major. Thanks everyone

If you are trying to get age related plates then you will definitly need the date codes from the various parts.
