Low range = 1- 3 forward + low reverse
High range = 4 - 6 forward + high reverse

I 'spect the tach's were only marked for the first four because those are the most used for field work. Not enough room on the face for 6 bands may have had some to do with it also.

naildriver,

rear PTO equipment (like a mower or a bush hogger) is always designed to operate best at about 530... 570 RPM (PTO input).
The gearbox however reduces the rpm from engine towards PTO. The above hourmeter is for a Dexta Diesel with serial number after 957E63953. This meter indicates : the engine making 1800 RPM, the PTO output is 540 RPM (see specification of the Dexta). The earlier build Dexta's have a slightly different reduction : PTO RPM of 536 at Engine 1 500 RPM.

Concerning the speeds

Interesting

Now that's very interesting, seems strange, I would assume that in low there was 1st, 2nd and 3rd and in hi,- 4th, 5th and 6th. Interesting, Thanks
