Hi All,
This weekend I replaced the rear crank seals on one of my super majors. The bell housing and the clutch were coated in oil. I had a spare dual clutch from a scrapped tractor so I decided I would fit this as it wasn't contaminated with engine oil.
I am now jointing the engine to the back end. The PTO disk seems to have engaged with the spines on the shaft as normal but the drive disc has not yet. There is about an inch of a gap between the bell housing and the block. I can still turn the fly wheel with the tractor in gear. Is this normal or is this clutch wore out?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Super Major Dual Clutch questions
Put the tractor into gear so that as you turn the flywheel the transmission input shat does not turn. You have to line up the input splines thats why its not going in. Make sure the engine is bang square to the gearbox as well.
Just a thought. Did you check the pins that carry the release arms. They wear through and if they snap they can cause a catastrophic failure. I always replace them. I do not have the setup tool but I have not had issues. I just make sure all the buttons are level and that there is 650 tho between the PTO and Main release buttons.

Another trick is to leave the gearbox in neutral, engage the pulley in high range and slow rotate the pulley as you push the engine back. You will need a helper.

Thanks Steven for your reply .I took alook again this morning and as far as i can work out now both shafts have engaged in there respective plates in the clutch .the input shaft is just touching the edge of the flywheel bearing. What has me puzzled is surely I should not be able to turn the engine with the tractor in gear at this stage.I was trying all this on my own but you definately need a helper as it is all very heavy. Is the High/Low selector in gear? You should not be able to turn the engine if it is in gear without moving the rear wheels.
Do not attempt to draw it together with bolts. Put a couple of long bolts in to work against but don't draw the tractor together with them.
Your main drive should engage first not the PTO, if your PTO is engaged and you can turn the engine without moving the wheels then there is something badly wrong with the clutch.

Hi all .Well i checked the clutch again and found a crack in the pressure plate so I decided to fit the original clutch even though it is a bit oily it is not slipping.I got a friend to help who has changed a few clutches in his own tractor so knew a bit more than myself. We started this evening and after alot of pushing and shoving it slipped together and engages and disengages PTO and drive when it should so hopefully all should be okay. Thanks to everyone for their help.
