Screen resolution.

Is it my computer that is at fault or is it due to the person/s posting
threads on this site, that I have to scroll from left to right and up and down in order to read or view the the post? This would appear to be a problem peculiar to this site as I do not experience this problem on other forums and frankly I reach a stage where I skip the post because I can't be bothered to scroll in order to read each line in turn.

Is it not possible to set the resolution at a certain level and reject any posts which do not conform and hence ensure a uniform size?

Yes, I know what you mean.
You are not alone in your sentiments. In fact, Brian has just responded to the same complaint in the Major section.

It's not so much resolution as the 'size' of the posting.
The BBS automatically expands dependant on the width.
If someone displays either an 'over large' picture, or posts pictures in line (left to right) this expands the posting width and so takes the text with it.

The answer is to try and encourage everyone to keep pictures to a smaller size (640 x 480 max) and post them one below the other.

I'm certain that this board is set up for Dynamic adjustment. i.e. It sets itself to fill the screen that it is being viewed by. I think you'll find that the only threads that cause the Scrolling problems are those that contain LARGE (wide) images. Those images are a set dimension and the board adjusts its width to accomodate them.
It bloody annoys the hell out of me too when it happens. Some people don't know how to edit/resize images and there in lies the problem. Nor do they understand that whilst they might appear to sit nicely on their own screen (a large screen with hi-res), other people's screens are often smaller.

NO IMAGE SHOULD BE MORE THAN 800 PIXELS wide on any website!!! (nor should they be more than 200kb for a large image of those dimensions)

In addition, people should understand that if they make a MISTAKE or leave something out of a post ..... USE THE EDIT button to redo it. You don't have to start another post just to change or advise what needed changing, unless others have added their posts and the context would would be changed. The EDIT button remains there for the author's use forever!!!

I have a 19 inch screen set to 1280 x960 and it's only those threads that have large images that requires me to scroll. Just as a guide about Dynamic sizing of this Board, the first paragraph of your post takes up just 3-1/2 lines on my screen. Could take 5 lines on someone elses with a 800 x 600 or similar.

I hope I don't sound grumpy .... If so it might be because I am ..... and Kiwi knows the reasons why, eh Kev.

Have a little patience with people who are just learning to post pictures. I was once un-initiated (still am in getting Internet Explorer to read my e-mails 0 (but then so are BT).

I always post one picture at least one space below another and that sorts the problem. Its when you post one after the other that causes the problem.

It happens on the CowBoard in Nebraska too. Sometimes the wording on the post more than fills the width of the screen and you have to scroll across to read the whole line/

By that way, sometimes when I post multiple photos, even though I " return " bewteen each photo, some are side by side instead of above/below each other. Can anyone tell me why please?

It is a little irritating to have to scroll back and forth to read the text, but sometimes the big pictures are worth it. I think that if we try to keep our pics down to under 800 wide, like Rick said, and don't put them side by side, we won't have to scroll. If the computer irritates you too much, you could turn it off and go spend some quality time with your Fordson.

Anybody who figures out how to post a picture and was born when Fordson tractors were still used on farms deserves a medal in my book. Just keep those pictures coming, no matter how big. Details about how other people get to see them can always be worked out later. I would sooner have the inconvenience of having to scroll right with my mouse rather than missing out on the picture all together.

The pictures that I just posted of my Super 6 are just under 800 pixels wide. Did anyone have to scroll back and forth? Should I make them narrower? They were just right on my laptop with the resolution set to 1280x720.
